Special Events: Art Auction
On Friday, September 8th the community had the opportunity to "Brighten Your Home and Brighten a Child's Life" by attending the 2nd Annual Evening of Art. This art auction benefited Advocates for Children and the Columbus Museum of Art and Design's children's programming. It was a fun evening with great food, great art, and interesting histories of the various pieces of art. A wide variety of art, using many different mediums and an eclectic collection of artists, were auctioned throughout the evening to benefit the two organizations. As stated above, one cannot only brighten their home with new art, but also brighten a child’s life.

Local artist Susanne Riehle, a board member with Advocates for Children, created five paintings and donated them to this Evening of Art event. Each of the paintings was based on a well-known work of a master painter or sculptor. The names reflected that connection, directly or indirectly, even when the media may not. Woven into each painting ware symbols of Indiana courtrooms and religious themes. The subjects are all--with one exception, children. The paintings in the series ware: La Pieta, David, The Pearl (based on Girl with a Pearl), Young Boy (based on Young Beggar), and an untitled work.

The 2007 Evening of Art could not have taken place without the financial support of Warren Ward and Jalene Hahn at Warren Ward Associates Financial Planning. Their support of Advocates for Children reflects their concern for the most vulnerable children in this community.
