CASA Job Description
A CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) is a specially trained volunteer advocate appointed by the court to ensure that the needs of a child who may have been abused or neglected are met. The CASA strives to assure that the child is placed in a safe, permanent and loving home as quickly as possible.
Responsibilities
- Upon assignment to a case, interview the child, family members, foster family, teachers, social workers, and other interested parties to determine the facts.
- Review all records relevant to the case.
- Identify appropriate permanency plans for the child.
- Identify whether reasonable efforts to reunify the child and his/her birth family are being provided.
- Investigate alternatives available for the child.
- Prepare a signed written report stating findings and recommendations.
- Attend all case conferences, meetings, and court hearings on the case.
- Assist in the implementation of the court prescribed plan.
- Monitor progress and changes.
- Maintain detailed records.
- Maintain confidentiality of every case served.

The CASA Program requires each applicant to sign a release form enabling the agency to screen for past criminal or child abuse history. A prospective CASA may be denied, at any time, the privilege of volunteering with Advocates for Children.
