Help with Projects
Advocates for Children's Special Projects Coordinator is responsible for coordinating a variety of projects throughout the year. Some of these projects require many volunteers for the project/event to be successful. The program prefers not to ask volunteer advocates for extra time, other than what is needed to advocate for their cases. As a result, we have compiled a list of individuals who are interested in being Special Project Volunteers. This is a good opportunity for someone who is unable to become a volunteer advocate to contribute to our program in other ways.
Playhouse Project
This is the most important project of the year, and is our primary fundraiser. Each year, individuals or organizations design and build two backyard playhouses for children. These are usually completed in the spring and displayed at various venues in our five county region throughout the summer and fall. Raffle tickets are sold at each venue, and the winning tickets are drawn at Ethnic Expo (Columbus) in October. Other venues have included the Bears of Blue River Festival in Shelbyville and Oktoberfest in Seymour. In addition, we are always looking for new venue ideas. Individuals have also volunteered to sell raffle tickets at work or in their community.
Store of Dreams
During the holiday season, not-for-profit agencies in Bartholomew County sell holiday merchandise in space made available by one of the local malls. Each United Way agency willing to participate is responsible for providing volunteers to run the store for one week. Advocates for Children participates in this program, and it is a moderate source of additional income. We need volunteers to work at this store. We would also welcome ideas for holiday items to sell.
Additional
Advocates for Children would always benefit from having individuals volunteer in our office. Duties could include copying training manuals, folding and addressing newsletters, compiling data, organizing and cataloguing our library, etc.
