2009 CASA for Kids Playhouse Raffle The 2008 CASA for Kids Playhouse Raffle was very successful. The "Tombstone Jail" designed and built by Keith Shipley as his senior project at Columbus East High School, was a huge success with kids. The "Blue Cottage" was designed and built by employees of Jackson County Bank in Seymour, and was a favorite of everyone. The "Tombstone Jail" was won by Angel Skelton of North Vernon, and the "Blue Cottage" was won by Chris Price of Columbus. Mr. Price donated his playhouse to Carla Hodges of Columbus for use with the foster kids that she cares for in her home. Thanks Chris for this kind gesture! Venues this year will include: "Railroad Days in North Vernon ", "The Greensburg Car Show", the "US 50 Yard Sale in North Vernon", the "Scottish Festival" in Columbus, The "Tree City Festival" in Greensburg, "Oktoberfest" in Seymour, "Ethnic Expo" in Columbus, and "Fort Vallonia Days" in Vallonia, Indiana. 2009 Playhouse Project The 2009 Casa for Kids Playhouse Raffle is underway. Advocates for Children is in the process of securing Corporate Sponsors, and this year's playhouses are being built. One of this years houses, called the "Crooked House" is being built by the Industrial Arts classes of Jennings County High School in North Vernon. This house is being built under the direction of teacher Jim Clarkson. Jim says that, "Every year his kids look forward to building a playhouse to support our work to help abused and neglected children in south central Indiana. It is an important experience for the kids as it teaches them how to make something that benefits a worthy cause." Jim has sent thse pictures of the kids in various stages of work on the "Crooked House". We cannot wait to see the finished result of the students labor. This house will be on display at Railroad Days in North Vernon and the Oktoberfest in Seymour. The other playhouse - is being built by employees of Cummins and we have no pictures to display yet, but are axiously awaiting the finished product.
