Qualifications
No special background or experience is required to become a CASA volunteer. Potential volunteers must first attend an information session, complete an application form, and be interviewed by one of the program staff. A complete background check is conducted on each potential volunteer. All prospective volunteers are thoroughly screened and are asked to allow a criminal records check, child abuse registry check, and BMV check. In addition, a minimum of three personal references are contacted.

An extensive training program is provided for each volunteer, and serves as phase 2 of the screening process. The volunteer must complete the 5-week training class to be eligible for being sworn in as a Court Appointed Special Advocate. Anyone over the age of 21 can apply for this unique volunteer opportunity.

If anyone is interested in becoming a Court Appointed Special Advocate please contact Advocates for Children at casa@apowerfulvoice.org.
