In order to illustrate and bring awareness to the need for Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers in our local community, Advocates for Children will be regularly highlighting one case each month which is currently on our waiting list. Identifying information has been altered in order to protect the privacy of the families involved in these cases.
With all of our current Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers currently serving cases, and an extensive waiting list of abused and neglected children in need of advocates, Advocates for Children is urgently seeking new volunteers. These volunteers will serve as CASAs for children such as three year old "Timothy," and his baby sister, 8 month old "Susan."
Police were recently called to the parking lot of a local super market, where the children's parents had left them in a vehicle unattended for over half an hour. When the children's parents were located, they were both found to be under the influence of controlled substances. The children were place in the care of the Department of Child Services.
A CASA volunteer is needed to guarantee that these children's best interests are represented throughout their time in the child protection system. Without a CASA volunteer, Timothy and Susan could find themselves separated from one another in the foster care system, left to wonder what has become of their sibling. Absent the diligent efforts of a trained advocate, these vulnerable children could go without the services they need and deserve. A CASA volunteer is needed to serve as a powerful voice, speaking up for these children's right to a safe, loving, and permanent home.
The volunteer who answers the call to stand up for children such as Timothy and Susan will not be expected to go it alone. To ensure that they are adequately prepared, all potential CASA volunteers receive 24 hours of training provided by Advocates for Children, and will be assisted with their case by our professional staff.
If you are interested in becoming a CASA volunteer for one of the 325 children like Timothy and Susan who are currently on Advocates for Children's waiting list, please sign up online or call the office toll-free at (877) 604-9402 to learn more.
